Davis Langdon bucks the trend at University of Westminster

November, 2010

Global construction consultant, Davis Langdon, An AECOM Company, has been appointed as cost manager for the first £20m stage of the redevelopment and refurbishment of the University of Westminster’s Marylebone Road site

Against a background of public spending cuts affecting the higher education sub-sector, it is pleasing that Davis Langdon has secured this appointment, against tough competition, to provide cost management services for this two year project working alongside GHM Rock Townsend and Mace.

The Marylebone Project involves the refurbishment of teaching and learning facilities for the Westminster Business School and School of Architecture and Building. In addition, there are plans to reconfigure a number of shared public areas to reinforce the identity of the university and create ‘Social Learning’ space, an increasing vogue in the sector.

The overall aim of this redevelopment programme is to improve the quality and usability of this site in order to ensure that it continues to attract high quality students from both the UK and overseas, as well as increase capacity and flexibility. These are both responses to the recently issued Browne Report: ‘Securing a Sustainable Future for Higher Education’ concerning the future funding of higher education in England.

The first phase of the project is due to be complete in September 2011, which will accommodate 600 students who are relocating from the university’s Harrow campus.
