Davis Langdon associate director wins Future Leader award

Michael Skelton, an associate director in Davis Langdon's Australia division, has won the Judd Farris Award for Future Leader at the 2012 Property Council of Australia/Rider Levett Bucknall Innovation and Excellence Awards.

The award acknowledges, encourages and promotes the positive contribution made to the industry by young property professionals.

Mr Skelton, Global Business Intelligence Manager, leads Davis Langdon’s Research team for Australia and New Zealand and similar teams in North America, Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

He has been instrumental in developing Davis Langdon’s cost and project analysis benchmarking system and seeing it adopted by the business globally. He has also developed the Building Information Modelling, Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) and Carbon Accounting services in Australia and New Zealand.

“I am honoured to receive this award and owe a great deal to my team, management and people at Davis Langdon – their support and willingness to back new ideas has led to great personal and professional growth over the years,” Mr Skelton said.

Managing Director of Davis Langdon in Australia and New Zealand, Mark Beattie, said Mr Skelton demonstrates superior business skills and a unique vision for the industry.

“It is relatively rare to find a person who has good vision and clarity on what needs to be achieved and Michael really understands what drives the property and construction industry,” Mr Beattie said.

“Michael’s leadership is well demonstrated by the result he and his team have achieved and the ambitious program he continues to support.”

As part of the award, Mr Skelton will use the coming year to undertake a research project focusing on how regional variances are impacting on the global adoption of IPD.

The research will investigate various factors, such as cultural and contractual issues, and consider how these may be preventing the industry from realising the productivity and financial benefits of IPD.

The results of the research project will be presented in March 2013.

Davis Langdon was also involved with two other Innovation and Excellence Award winners, providing cost management services on The Charles Apartments in Hobart, winner of the Best Mixed Use Development Award, and 39 Hunter Street in Sydney, winner of Best Heritage and Adaptive Reuse Award.
